The Artist X Change program supports exchange of artists between two countries to provide mutual understanding with the goal to bridge misunderstanding between different cultures.

Nature of the project is to promote an artistic exchange between Austrian artists and artists from abroad. The Project takes place in two parts. In the first part we want to introduce a variety of Austrian artists from all walks of life as well as their work to a foreign country. The collective group of Austrian artist from diverse artistic backgrounds will visit the chosen country to present their work and their culture through multiple disciplines, produce workshops and promote collective experiences with local artist. On a sequel the same experience will be duplicated in Austria. In exchange artists from abroad travel to and through Austria, producing and presenting their work, giving workshops and touching base with locals.

As the first Artists X Change program we will be collaborating with Artists from Costa Rica and Austria. Hosted by Butterflies & Bunnyrabbits this Cultural X Change will be part of an ongoing collaboration with the BBR Program for International Artist X Change.

Both events in Austria and in Costa Rica will be completely documented by the Butterflies & Bunnyrabbits filming crew that will accompany the artists with the purpose of producing a documentary. The documentary will be aired on cultural based TV stations in Europe and released over the Internet. For its inauguration the documentary will be broadcasted life in Costa Rica – and in Austria.

GOALS:

1- To promote a cultural and artistic exchange between both countries

2- To promote Costa Ricas contemporary culture in Austria and Europe and some of its exponents.

3- To generate artistic exposure for both countries through the production of the documentary and the event.

4- To broadcast the documentary on European and Costa Rican TV stations.

AGENDA:

A selection of upcoming Austrian artists among them painters, illustrators, graffiti artists, actors and musicians, will travel to Costa Rica. The hosts in Costa Rica will be Universidad Veritas and the local artist Shilowska Pretto. Most of the activities and workshops will be hosted by Univerisidad Veritas. For a period of three weeks the artists will produce works of art on the subject matter Costa Rica, exhibit their work in various exhibition spaces and engage in cultural and artistic exchange with the locals. The produced pieces will be exhibited in different local galleries and will generate opportunities for the artistic and cultural exchange with local artists.

The artists are also invited to lecture free workshops at Universidad Veritas and they will participate in panel discussions and press conferences. There will be live painting sessions with the presence of a Music Producer.. Private companies will be invited to sponsor the event and promote their brands in rich cultural experimental environments.

The whole event closure will be a big electronic party hosted by universidad veritas.
As “Part 2” a group of Costa Rican artist will travel to Austria. Butterflies & Bunnyrabbits acts as host and the Costa Rican artists get to touch base with Austrian locals. The experience will be duplicated in Austria.

After three weeks of producing art, accompanied by the same film crew, the Costa Rican artists are invited to join panel discussions and to lecture workshops at the Vienna University of Applied Arts. Another party marks the end of the Costa Rican artists stay in Austria. The Premiere of the documentary will be transmitted in Vienna and San Jose. A part of the funds raised from sales of the produced artwork goes to charitable organisations in Costa Rica, working in favour of homeless children or supporting the construction of schools and art events. The expenses of the events will be financed by private companies and sponsors and we are looking forward to work with the total support of both countries governments.

The opening event for the Artist X Change program will take place in vienna on the 18th of June at the Le Meridien Hotel Vienna. The Artist Shilowska Pretto will exhibit her work “Creatures of Light”. For more information visit Creatures of Light
